Horse question

I talk to my horse when I ride her. I tell her things like "Easy, Quit it, Whoa, and Good Girl" It something I've always done while I ride. I got a chuckle when out of no where, Hunter says:
...“Mom, do horses actually understand human language?"
"Or do they just listen and say “La la la”?...
